EATING FOR THE MENOPAUSE

Healthy eating for the menopause and beyond

How can you eat to ease some of the unwelcome symptoms associated with the menopause? The long term effects of lower oestrogen  levels & hormonal changes can cause a variety of symptoms, including: hot flushes, tiredness, weight gain, dry skin, depression & poor bone health.

Menopause is a time of transition, the end of the fertile years, and for every woman it is an individual experience and how it effects them but sometimes it can feel very much out of our own hands. One thing we can control is what we put in our bodies during such a time to nourish ourselves. A nutritionally balanced diet is key.

Our evening medicinal cookery class is an introduction to nutritional cooking which incorporates the healthiest foods into exciting and tasty recipes in a simplistic way, providing support during and after the menopause.  Adopting healthy lifestyle changes can make a real difference to how you feel.

You will learn to cook a wide range of simple, healthy dishes using fresh and easily available ingredients You will discover the medicinal benefits of selected herbs and spices with an explanation of the importance of certain nutrient groups which will supply your body to meet the demands of the menopause.

Sample recipes will include:

  • Banana, avocado & flax seed smoothie

  • Bresaola, gem lettuce & olive salad

  • Almond & sage lentil Stew

  • Sweet potato, soy & brazil nut cake

Our hands-on cookery classes at Kitchen Joy’s Kitchen in Chiswick include the ingredients, food preparation and cooking equipment, and drinks. You will prepare and cook dishes around the Kitchen Joy island and can enjoy eating your dishes together with the group on the long dining table. There will also be some left over foods for you to take home to share with your loved ones.
